The 10 Commandments

for the Developer and the Script Editor

(Development News, October 2010)

By Lucy Scher and Katriel Schory

  • Thou shalt have no other god but developing good scripts

  • Thou shalt be true to the heart of the story

  • Thou shalt be constructive, rather than critical

  • Thou shalt not skim read

  • Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's ox

  • Thou shalt not rewrite the story thyself

  • Thou shalt not quaver in the line of defensive reaction

  • Thou shalt not profess to be the last word, or a know-it-all

  • Thou shalt read lots of scripts

  • Thou shalt remember to invite us to the premieres.

Lucy Scher is the UK Script Factory Founder and Director, she is working with Screen Australia to run the Character Building screenwriting workshop in Sydney, 1-5 November 2010.
Katriel Schory, Executive of the Israeli Film Fund, delivered a presentation about the state of the local Israeli industry and how to encourage and develop further co-production opportunities between Israel and Australia during his visit to Sydney in early September 2010.
