Four Australian films have been selected from over 7,100 entries to screen at the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France.

Clermont-Ferrand is widely regarded as the world’s leading international short film festival and marketplace. In 2011, the festival recorded 149,000 admissions and the concurrent market was visited by 3,100 filmmakers and executives including buyers, distributors, press, festival selectors and talent scouts.

Two Australian shorts were selected to screen in the International Competition section. Tethered by writer/director Craig Irvin is about a young man who takes a job at a slaughterhouse and Paris Lakes by writer/director/producer Robert Stephenson is an animated ‘advertisement’ that outlines the comforts and conveniences of the new suburb of Paris Lakes.

Selected for the experimental content Lab Competition, which is aimed at visually high-risk films with unique viewpoints, are Attach Boat to Motor and At the Formal. Attach Boat to Motor by writer/director Nathan Lewis is about the events of one day in the country which lead a young man to follow his own path. The film stars Kit Baker, Jedda-Daisy Culley and David Hogan. At the Formal from writer/director Andrew Kavanagh is a macabre depiction of a high school prom where modern and ancient rituals collide starring Anthony Littlechild and David MacRae.
