INDUSTRY ALERT: Pusan International Film Festival visitor viewing Australian films in July

Friday 9 July 2010

Screen Australia will host a visit by Pusan International Film Festival’s (PIFF) Mr Jay Jeon, who will be in Sydney to view new Australian films.

In its 15th year, PIFF is one of the largest film festivals in Asia. It regularly programs a wide selection of films from Asia and elsewhere. In 2009, PIFF screened 169 films from 31 countries to an audience of 184,071 and it hosted 224 guests from 27 countries.

PIFF 2009 saw the introduction of a new competition section, Flash Forward, for first or second features from non-Asian filmmakers, carrying award prize money of US$20,000.

PIFF looks for relatively new artistic works by young and talented directors as well as works from established directors. The festival gives priority to world premieres and every film to be screened for the festival must be a Korean premiere.

Seven Australian films were selected to screen at Pusan last year, screening in the Midnight Passion and World Cinema programs.

Mr Jeon will be viewing feature films and feature documentaries that have been completed no earlier than October 2009. If you would like your film to be viewed please check the PIFF entry requirements in the first instance at the PIFF website

If your film meets these conditions please email Dale Fairbairn, Marketing Manager Industry Support, at dale.fairbairn@screenaustralia.gov.au

Submission deadline to Screen Australia is 5.00pm Tuesday 20 July.
