The Film Projectors

Twin Bauer 35mm projectors are kept in top condition by our engineers. Each projector can be set up to project a variety of screen formats including Super 35mm and Cinemascope. The projectors are kept close to the centreline to minimise keystoning and individual shadow masks are used for each format. 16mm and Super 16mm are also provided.

The Digital Projector

The Roxy boasts a digital projector of exceptional quality. The NEC DLP throws sharp, bright, colour-accurate images and provides for a wide variety of screen sizes and shapes to cater for different client needs.Allowing high-quality double-head screenings sfrom Avid fine-cuts or Digital Betacam in all possible aspect ratios, it adds another level of flexibility to the Roxy.

The digital projector is connected to the lectern with a VGA line driver and ethernet ports provide reliable, fast internet access at all times.
The NEC DLP complements the 35mm film projection and Dolby Digital sound system and maintains the facility as Australia's benchmark preview and presentation theatre.

The Screen

The large, bright screen measures 3.4 metres high by 8 metres wide and is an 18 metre throw from the projectors. All formats are professionally masked with black velvet to optimise the viewing experience. Behind the screen is an impressive array of JBL cinema speakers and four 18-inch sub-woofers.

The Sound System

A Dolby reader on each projector sends the optical digital signal to the CP650 Digital Cinema Processor, which sends the Dolby Surround signal audio signal to eight QSC high-power amplifiers behind the screen. If the digital signal drops out at any point, the processor instantly switches to the Dolby SR track and back again to ensure continuity of sound.

Double-Head Screenings

Multi-track sound can be reliably synched to film or videotape pictures using timecode as a synch source. This procedure is often used to check rough or final mixes against a conformed film print.

Bring in your own DA88 or digital audio disks and set them up to "chase" the timecode generated by our projection system.
